PREVENTATIVE health will be road-tested tomorrow, when the North West Area Health Service, Cancer Council Tasmania and the Hawthorn Football Club present PitStop.
The PitStop program takes participants through a series of ''stations’’ or health checks, which are talked about in terms of a 100-point car service check.
The checks include - blood pressure (oil pressure), organ
donation (spare parts), smoking (exhaust), alcohol (fuel
additives), diabetes (transmission fluid), sexual health (insurance) as well as various cancer indicators and
risk factors.
In addition, a member of the Hawthorn Football Club will
also be on hand to provide support and advice on fitness
and being healthy.
NWAHS senior social worker and PitStop North-West
coordinator Dominic Peters said although the aim of the program was initially to target men, the program had been expanded to include some areas of specific female health issues, such as breast cancer.
''We did notice men (and some women) were not engaging in preventative health services,’’ Mr Peters said.
''So PitStop was designed to bring health to them.’’
PitStop health checks will be conducted at the Devonport foreshore tomorrow from 1-3pm. A player from the Hawthorn Football Club will also be in attendance. Everyone is welcome. For more information contact Dominic Peters on 6421 7780.
