DEVONPORT’S corporate community has been challenged this month to shed the kilos and compete against other local businesses.
The Devonport City Council has launched its first
Devonport Corporate Challenge, which will see business teams of four compete to gain the lowest fat percentage.
The challenge goes for six weeks and will be overseen by trainer Sam Lawrence.
Miss Lawrence said she would be conducting on-site visits to each team for each week of the challenge for
advice, support and the all important weigh-in.
''Everyone will be weighed in separately,’’ Miss Lawrence
said.
''The weight loss will be calculated as the loss of body fat percentage, which will be tallied as a team.’’
Miss Lawrence said this made the challenge a little bit
more fun and took the pressure off individuals to perform consistently each week.
In addition to providing the administration side of the
challenge, Miss Lawrence will be conducting weekly boot
camp sessions for any team who wishes to participate.
''As part of their registration, each team is also given 10 free passes to the Devonport Recreation Centre,’’ Miss
Lawrence said.
''So (in addition to the boot camp sessions) they can go
down and participate in the classes held there.’’
Miss Lawrence said the corporate challenge was
designed to be a way to make weight loss and exercise more fun - by introducing a little healthy competition.
''It creates a sense of fun rivalry,’’ she said.
''And enhances the sense of team cohesion in the
workplace.’’
The Devonport Corporate Challenge is on now, but late registrations will still be accepted. Cost is $200 per
team. To register, fill out an entry form and email Tracey
Bruce on tbruce@devonport.tas.gov.au or Sam Lawrence on slawrence@devonport.tas.gov.au or fax to 6423 5008.
